The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has introduced a controlled process for candidates to swap their registered GSM numbers and change their registered email addresses. This new policy, announced by JAMB's Ag. Director, Public Affairs and Protocol, Fabian Benjamin, aims to assist candidates who have lost access to their SIM cards or email accounts. The policy was previously barred as a security measure due to vulnerabilities associated with such changes.
The new arrangement, which commenced on September 21, 2026, will enable candidates who have lost their registered SIM numbers or email accounts to update their details through a secure and controlled process. According to Fabian Benjamin, the Board had introduced enhanced security measures, particularly stronger identity and biometric verification processes, which led to the review of the policy. This initiative aims to reduce the hardship and trauma associated with the loss of access to candidates' registered credentials.
The SIM swap and email change service will be available only once and can be accessed at JAMB CBT (PTC/PRC) Centres, including State Offices where applicable. Candidates seeking the service are required to present a new GSM number and/or email address, as well as a duly executed Court Affidavit, scanned and ready for upload. The process involves logging into the e-Facility profile using existing credentials, selecting "SIM Swap/eMail Change Payment" from the menu, and paying the prescribed fee.
Candidates will then proceed to the JAMB CBT (PTC/PRC) Centre, access the SIM Swap/eMail Change Quicklink, and enter their Profile Code or existing GSM number. They will undergo biometric verification, select the required service, and enter the new GSM number and/or email address. The scanned Court Affidavit will be uploaded, and candidates will click "Update" to complete the process. A confirmation message will be displayed upon successful completion.
The Board stressed that the concession is subject to strict authentication procedures designed to prevent impersonation, fraud, and unauthorized alteration of candidates' records. Candidates are advised to use the service strictly for genuine cases and patronize only designated JAMB CBT (PTC/PRC) Centres. The reviewed policy reflects the Board's commitment to combining strong data security with candidate-friendly service delivery.
The new policy will enable candidates who have lost their registered SIM numbers, particularly those unable to use such numbers for registration for subsequent UTME exercises, to update their details.
