The latest data from APNIC Labs reveals a mixed picture of IPv6 adoption in Tunisia. The country maintains a significantly higher adoption rate than the African average, but with notable disparities among networks. According to APNIC's data, Tunisia has around 25.65% IPv6-capable users and 24.98% IPv6-preferred users. This compares to an African average of 6% and a global average exceeding 40%.

Ooredoo and Tunisie Telecom emerge as the primary contributors to Tunisia's IPv6 adoption. During the spring, Ooredoo Tunisie recorded 48.23% IPv6-capable users and 47.90% IPv6-preferred users. Tunisie Telecom achieved 33.45% IPv6-capable and 33.25% IPv6-preferred users. In contrast, Orange Tunisie measured 13.45% during the same period. These figures positioned the two leading operators well ahead of the rest of the market.

Topnet's situation warrants attention, with a significant decline in IPv6 adoption. Previous analysis based on APNIC data from April 20 to May 21, 2026, showed Topnet (AS37705) had only 0.22% IPv6-capable users out of over 817,000 samples. Recent APNIC data indicates that Topnet has fallen behind the main Tunisian networks. With an estimated 1.99 million users, representing 26.03% of the measured internet population, Topnet's performance affects national statistics.

Despite having a well-established IPv6 infrastructure, Topnet's adoption rate remains low. The ASN AS37705 announces IPv6 prefixes and has IPv6 connections with the Tunisian Internet Agency and backbone. However, the presence of these resources does not necessarily translate to widespread IPv6 usage among subscribers.

Starlink's emergence in Tunisian measurements is another notable development. The ASN AS14593, identified as SPACEX-STARLINK, has 197 samples associated with Tunisia, with 99.49% IPv6-capable and 96.45% IPv6-preferred users. Although this does not necessarily indicate 197 active Starlink customers in Tunisia, it suggests that the service is being used in the country despite not being officially commercialized.

The APNIC data also highlights that Starlink is being measured in Tunisia, with 234,254 IPv6 samples associated with AS14593 over a 30-day period, showing an IPv6 utilization rate of 25.89%. This data does not represent the number of Starlink subscribers in Tunisia but indicates the service's presence in the country's internet landscape.

Tunisia's overall IPv6 adoption rate remains significantly higher than the African average, but the country's market presents a paradox. With around 25.65% IPv6-capable users, Tunisia stands out on the continent but still lags behind the global average of over 40%. The performance of a few networks drives the country's relatively high adoption rate, while others remain underdeveloped in their transition to IPv6.

Key points

  • Tunisia's IPv6 adoption rate is 25.65%, surpassing the African average of 6%.
  • Ooredoo and Tunisie Telecom are the primary contributors to Tunisia's IPv6 adoption.
  • Starlink has emerged in Tunisian measurements, with a high IPv6 adoption rate despite not being officially commercialized.
