Housing Finance Bank (HFB) has partnered with Interswitch to expand its banking services to more Ugandans through Quickteller agents. The partnership allows HFB customers to access banking services closer to their homes and businesses. With over 23,000 Quickteller agents nationwide, customers can now make cash deposits, withdraw money using their debit cards, and check their account balances. This move is part of HFB's strategy to increase access to financial services beyond its traditional branch network.
The partnership is expected to improve convenience for customers in urban, peri-urban, and rural areas, particularly those with limited access to HFB's physical branches. According to Robert K. Mugabe, HFB's Chief Operations Officer, the partnership will give customers greater flexibility in accessing banking services. The collaboration with Interswitch's Quickteller Agency Banking network is a significant step towards achieving this goal. Mugabe emphasized that expanding access to banking services requires rethinking how and where customers interact with their bank.
Moris Seguya, Interswitch Uganda's Country General Manager, welcomed HFB to the Quickteller Agency Banking network. He stated that the partnership aims to make financial services simpler, accessible, and more convenient for every Ugandan. The arrangement will enable HFB customers to access banking services through Quickteller agents, creating additional business opportunities for the agents. Seguya added that the partnership will make financial services more accessible while generating revenue opportunities for agent operators.
To access the services, customers can visit any participating Quickteller agent and provide their HFB account number and account name when making cash deposits. Customers seeking to withdraw money or check their account balances must present their HFB debit cards at the agent's point-of-sale terminal. Withdrawals are authorized using a secure four-digit PIN, while customers can view their account balances through the terminal.
The partnership is expected to strengthen agent-powered banking in Uganda by extending access to formal financial services beyond conventional bank branches. It will also benefit both institutions by increasing deposit mobilization and card transactions for HFB, while generating additional revenue opportunities for agent operators. The collaboration is part of HFB's alternative banking channels strategy, which seeks to expand access to financial services.
The partnership between HFB and Interswitch is a significant step towards financial inclusion in Uganda. By integrating with the Quickteller Agency Banking network, HFB expects to improve convenience for its customers. The partnership will also create additional business opportunities for Quickteller agents, enabling them to grow their businesses. With over 23,000 Quickteller agents nationwide, the partnership is expected to have a significant impact on the Ugandan banking sector.
The partnership is also expected to support financial inclusion by making cash deposits more accessible and providing convenient card-based withdrawal points. According to Mugabe, this will strengthen HFB's alternative banking channels and support financial inclusion. The partnership between HFB and Interswitch is an essential step towards achieving financial inclusion in Uganda.
