For decades, African governance and policy discussions have been confined to formal settings, excluding the voices of young citizens. However, a new generation of digital creators is changing the landscape. The Africa Mindset Reset Forum, held in Kigali, Rwanda, recently brought together 34 digital influencers from 13 African countries to engage in crucial conversations about the continent's future. This shift towards inclusive governance is being driven by agencies like Influencer Africa, which strategized and executed the creator engagement at the forum.

The Africa Mindset Reset Forum, co-founded by President Paul Kagame and former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, focused on the theme "From Pan-Africanism to Meta-Africanism," emphasizing the need for collective action to build a better Africa. By partnering with Influencer Africa, the forum's organizers recognized the importance of cultural resonance in influence. Israel Laryea, Executive Head of Influencer Africa, noted that young Africans have often been left out of key decision-making processes, but their involvement is crucial in shaping the continent's future.

The creator cohort, curated and managed by Influencer Africa, played a vital role in amplifying the forum's message. These digital influencers used formats like Instagram reels and TikToks to break down complex governance topics into everyday language, making them accessible to young Africans across the continent. By doing so, they bridged the gap between policy rooms and cultural conversations. The creators' engagement plan was designed to ensure that influence is wielded responsibly, with a focus on ethical leadership and integrity.

Before creating content, the influencers participated in a historical context session, visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial to deepen their understanding of Africa's rebuilding process. The Influencer Africa Creatorthon Rwanda bootcamp was also held, facilitating discussions on leadership, legacy, and values. Monica Geingos, former First Lady of Namibia, led a session on practical lessons for leaders. The creators also participated in an official press conference with President Paul Kagame, demonstrating the blurring of lines between mainstream media and digital creators.

The impact of this culturally integrated approach was significant, with Influencer Africa's execution of the creator engagement plan outperforming its initial targets. In just one month, the activity achieved nearly 14 million impressions and 1.1 million engagements, far exceeding the goal of 9 million impressions and 250,000 engagements. The creators' content generated massive viral talkability across platforms, from Monrovia to Addis Ababa, Casablanca to Johannesburg.

The partnership between the African School of Governance and Influencer Africa has created a successful blueprint for the future of governance communication in Africa. By integrating digital creators into the conversation, the forum acknowledged the power of influencers in shaping the continent's mindset. As Africa looks towards a future defined by Meta-Africanism and collaborative building, leaders must recognize the importance of speaking the modern language of the continent.

The new era of engagement in Africa requires leaders to partner with strategic agencies and cultural translators who can turn policies into lasting movements. It is no longer enough to craft good policy behind closed doors; leaders must work with influencers to make their policies relevant and accessible to the wider population. This shift towards inclusive governance is a significant step towards building a better future for Africa.
