The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on its staff to go beyond their routine duties by prioritizing professionalism, empathy, accountability, and timely service delivery. This call was made during the Commission's 2026 Customer Service Week celebration, held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at its Conference Hall in Abuja. The theme of the celebration was "Going the Extra Mile." The event was attended by National Commissioners, members of management, directors, and staff.

National Commissioner and Chairman of the Health and Welfare Committee, Prof. Rhoda Gumus, represented INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash O. Amupitan, SAN, at the event. In her welcome address, she emphasized that every staff member is an ambassador of the Commission and that every interaction with voters and stakeholders shapes public perception of INEC. She urged staff to take ownership of their responsibilities, find practical solutions to challenges, and offer assistance beyond minimum requirements.

Prof. Gumus stressed that excellent customer service must become an enduring culture within the Commission. She noted that INEC is currently displaying the voters' register and distributing Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 General Election, a task that demands citizen-focused service. The Commission's efforts aim to ensure that voters and stakeholders receive the best possible service.

The Customer Service Week celebration included various activities, such as a fitness and health awareness walk and sensitization on PVC collection. Acting National Coordinator of SERVICOM, Mrs. Helen Lawal, commended INEC for organizing the event, describing it as a reminder for public institutions to improve service quality. She emphasized that service excellence requires anticipating citizens' needs, showing patience and empathy, and following up on complaints until resolution.

Mrs. Lawal also highlighted the importance of considering the needs of vulnerable groups, including older persons and persons with disabilities. Her remarks underscored the need for public institutions to prioritize the needs of all citizens. The event provided an opportunity for INEC staff to reflect on their roles and responsibilities in ensuring excellent service delivery.

The Customer Service Week celebration was attended by several high-ranking officials, including National Commissioners Prof. Kunle Ajayi and Prof. Sunday Aha. The presence of these officials demonstrated the Commission's commitment to prioritizing service delivery and customer satisfaction. The event marked a significant milestone in INEC's efforts to improve its services.
