The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has updated the logo displayed for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on its official portal. The commission now reflects the party's blue-background "Two Fingers Up" logo ahead of the 2027 general elections. This development follows a recent judgment by the Federal High Court in Abuja, which directed INEC to upload and use the modified logo adopted by the party.

The change brings a fresh development to the dispute between the NDC and INEC over the logo to be used by the party and its candidates. The NDC had directed its candidates, members, and supporters to adopt the modified logo after the court ordered INEC to upload and utilize the new design. The party's leader, Seriake Dickson, announced the court decision in a statement.

The modified logo was approved at the party's first National Executive Council meeting and subsequently submitted to INEC. According to Dickson, the commission initially uploaded the new design before removing it and reverting to the old logo under which the association was originally registered. The party had given INEC sufficient opportunity to resolve the matter but eventually approached the court after no corrective action was taken.

Dickson welcomed the judgment, describing it as a vindication of the party's position and commending the judiciary for intervening in the dispute. He instructed all NDC candidates and members to stop using the old logo for party and campaign activities and begin using the modified version approved in the party's constitution.

The NDC's presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and vice-presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, are among the party's major candidates expected to lead its campaign activities ahead of the 2027 elections. The party's National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, had previously directed candidates and members to retain the existing two-finger victory-sign logo until the engagement with INEC was concluded.

In August, the party said it was working with INEC to replace its existing logo with a modified version, explaining that the process was being delayed by administrative procedures. The proposed modification was communicated to INEC following consultations involving officials of the commission and the party.

The latest development is a significant step for the NDC as it prepares for the 2027 general elections. The party will focus on using the new logo in all campaign materials, including banners, posters, and other publicity materials, as it campaigns for various positions, including the presidency, governorship, National Assembly, and State House of Assembly.
