Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has reaffirmed the National Assembly's commitment to supporting measures aimed at strengthening Nigeria's security, promoting economic growth, and improving citizens' living conditions. In his message to Nigerians on the country's 66th Independence Anniversary, Barau urged citizens to renew their faith in Nigeria and remain committed to building a stronger, more prosperous, and secure nation.
Barau called on Nigerians to reflect on the nation's journey since independence and uphold the ideals of unity, peace, justice, tolerance, and development. He stated that the sacrifices of Nigeria's founding fathers and others who contributed to the country's independence should continue to inspire citizens to work for national progress and prosperity.
The Deputy Senate President acknowledged the progress recorded by Nigeria over the past 66 years, while noting that the country still faces significant challenges. He expressed confidence that unity of purpose, resilience, and collective commitment would enable Nigeria to overcome its difficulties and emerge stronger.
Barau also urged Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration in implementing policies and programmes under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He emphasized that with the cooperation of Nigerians, the country would build a stronger, more prosperous, and more secure nation.
The National Assembly, according to Barau, would continue to provide the legislative framework necessary to address the country's economic, security, and developmental challenges. He highlighted the State Police Bill currently before state Houses of Assembly, saying its passage would strengthen internal security and help address security challenges in parts of the country.
Barau, who is also the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, emphasized the importance of collective effort in building the Nigeria desired by its citizens. He encouraged Nigerians to play their part in nation-building and remain hopeful and committed to the task.
The Deputy Senate President's message was conveyed through a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, in Abuja on Wednesday. Barau's statement reiterated the National Assembly's commitment to working with the Executive to provide necessary legislative support for policies and programmes that would drive national progress.
