Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Owerri Federal Constituency, Imo State, have adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all APC candidates for the 2027 elections. They also endorsed Prince Dr. Alex Mbata as the party's senatorial candidate for the Owerri Zone. This decision was made at a stakeholders' meeting convened by Mbata, which was attended by party leaders, elected representatives, candidates, and grassroots stakeholders from the Owerri Municipal, Owerri North, and Owerri West local government areas.
The APC Owerri Zonal Chairman, Chief Justus Ogu, addressed the meeting, stating that Mbata's emergence as senator would not prevent another person from the Owerri Federal Constituency from aspiring to become governor in 2028. Ogu expressed confidence in Mbata's ability to represent the zone effectively. He also emphasized that the party's focus should be on winning the elections and not on individual ambitions.
The APC State Secretary, Hon. Onyekachi Ibezim, described Mbata as a man with a strong fear of God and urged party members to support all APC candidates. Ibezim emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation within the party to achieve success in the upcoming elections. He also encouraged party members to work together to ensure that the APC wins all the elections.
The Owerri Zone Apex Leader, Prince Lemmy Akakem, praised Mbata's record of philanthropy and private interventions, saying that this would make his campaign easier to sell to voters. Akakem expressed confidence that Mbata's achievements would speak for him, making it easier for the party to market him to the electorate. He also emphasized that Mbata's emergence as senator would be a boost to the party's chances of winning the elections.
Former Secretary to the State Government, Sir Jude Ejiogu, urged APC leaders to extend their mobilisation beyond party members, noting that Mbata's interventions had benefited people across political affiliations. Ejiogu emphasized that Mbata's efforts had not been limited to party members, but had also benefited people from other political parties. He encouraged party leaders to be inclusive in their mobilisation efforts.
Former APC State Chairman, Chief Malcolm Nlemigbo, said that delivering all APC candidates would strengthen the party's political structure ahead of the 2028 governorship election. Nlemigbo emphasized the importance of winning the elections to consolidate the party's position in the state. He also encouraged party leaders to work together to achieve this goal.
Mbata described his senatorial ticket as belonging to the people of Owerri Federal Constituency and promised to remain accessible if elected. He assured the people that he would work tirelessly to represent their interests effectively. Mbata also thanked the party stakeholders for their endorsement and support.
