The Bishop of Ahiara Catholic Diocese, Most Rev Simeon Okezuo Nwobi, announced the approval and accreditation of the two colleges on October 12, 2026. The federal government, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, and Public Health and Epidemology Practitioners of Nigeria granted the approval after the diocese fulfilled the necessary requirements. This development marks a significant milestone for the diocese in the education sector.

According to Bishop Nwobi, admission forms for the colleges will be available at the Mbaise Catholic Secretariat. The admission process will be based on merit, with no quota system in place. Prospective students can gain admission with a JAMB cut-off mark of 150 for the Nursing College and 140 for the Allied Health College. The diocese aims to establish the colleges as reputable institutions for modern medical and health practices in Nigeria.

The Bishop commended individuals who contributed to making this dream a reality, particularly Mrs. Kelechi Anaele, an experienced nursing professional and engineer from the area. Her expertise and dedication played a crucial role in securing the approval for the colleges. The diocese is confident that the colleges will provide quality education and training in the healthcare sector.

Rev. Fr. Jude Thaddeus Osondu, Director of Media in the Diocese, expressed hope that the establishment of the colleges will boost entrepreneurial skills in students. The colleges have modern facilities, including hostels, an administrative block, auditorium, e-library, science laboratories, and sports centre. These facilities will provide students with a conducive learning environment and equip them with the skills needed to succeed in their chosen careers.

The Mater Ecclessiae College of Nursing Sciences and Mater Ecclessiae College of Allied Health Sciences will offer programs in various fields of healthcare. The colleges will be managed by experienced professionals in the healthcare sector, ensuring that students receive high-quality education and training. The diocese is committed to providing a well-rounded education that prepares students for the challenges of the healthcare industry.

The establishment of the colleges is expected to have a positive impact on the education sector in Imo State and Nigeria as a whole. The colleges will provide opportunities for young people to acquire skills and knowledge in the healthcare sector, contributing to the development of the country's healthcare system. The diocese is committed to ensuring that the colleges maintain high standards of education and training.
