Ikoyi Club 1938 recently concluded its 88th anniversary celebrations with an Anniversary Gala on the Main Lawn on Sunday, October 4. The week-long events began on September 28 under the theme "Legacy in Motion". The Lagos-based club kicked off the celebrations with a Media Connect event at its Rotunda, where it unveiled the official anniversary logo. The event drew entertainers and media personalities, including Richard Mofe-Damijo, Shaffy Bello, Ireti Doyle, and Sola Sobowale.

Several media personalities received awards for their contributions to the media and entertainment industry during the Media Connect event. Officials present included the club Chairman, Akinwunmi Akintola, Vice Chairman and Anniversary Committee Chairman Bolaji Martins, Golf Captain Afolabi Balogun, and General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Dr Babajide Orungbeja. Akintola, a member for over six decades, emphasized that the celebration was as much about the future as the past.

Akintola described the logo as a visual representation of the club's theme, heritage, and continuing journey. He paid tribute to the media and creative industries, stating that they have helped put Nigeria on the global stage through their talent, creativity, and hard work. Akintola also declared that the club would preserve its traditions while embracing new ideas and technologies.

The week-long celebrations featured various events, including competitive tournaments across the club's eight sporting sections: golf, lawn tennis, swimming, squash, badminton, and table tennis. Top performers received trophies and awards at the closing gala. Other events included a colloquium titled "The Ikoyi Club Story", a Staff Talent Showcase, Banking and Finance Day, an art exhibition and auction, and an Elders' Party.

The club also hosted a Real Estate Expo, a health walk, Global Cultural Day, Foods of the World, and a Diversity Night with Caribbean, Indian, and European themes. Ladies' Night, themed around table tennis, was another highlight of the celebrations. Veteran musician Ebenezer Obey was initially billed to perform at one of the events.

Bolaji Martins expressed his gratitude to the entertainers who attended the events, calling it "the honour of a lifetime". The gala night featured dining, live music, and addresses by the club's leadership. The club was formed through the merger of the European Club and the Lagos Club on September 29, 1938.
