Ikeja Electric Plc has started refunding payments made by eligible customers for meters supplied under the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) scheme. The refunds are being credited to customers through their electricity vending transactions. This was announced during the company's September Virtual Stakeholder Engagement, where updates on its metering programme were provided.

The refund arrangement allows customers who previously paid for their meters to receive the approved refund through credits applied to subsequent vending transactions over the designated refund period. Customers can track the progress of their refunds online using either their meter number or account number. This feature is available on the company's refund dashboard.

The refund dashboard provides customers with details including the cost of the meter, number of refunds received, monthly refund amount, total refund received, and the date of the last refund. It also provides information on the applicable refund token sent to the customer’s registered phone number or email address. This allows customers to monitor their refunds closely.

Customers who have concerns about their MAP refunds are advised to contact Ikeja Electric through its official complaint channels or visit the nearest undertaking office for assistance. The company has put in place measures to ensure that customers can easily access help when needed. This includes using official communication channels for accurate information.

During the stakeholder engagement, Ikeja Electric also warned customers against engaging unauthorised electricians to work on its electricity infrastructure. This warning follows recent incidents involving fatalities linked to unsafe electrical activities. The company emphasised the importance of safety around electrical infrastructure.

Mr. Olaniyi Olayiwola, Head, Quality, Health, Safety & Environment, urged customers not to allow unqualified persons to climb Ikeja Electric poles, work on power lines, tamper with electrical installations, or carry out illegal connections. He advised customers to report unsafe activities to the company’s designated safety emergency channels.

The company also used the engagement to advise communities to maintain adequate clearance around high-voltage power lines. Encroachment on electricity infrastructure and inadequate right-of-way remain significant safety risks. Ikeja Electric continues to engage with customers on safety and other important issues.
