Ikeja Electric Plc has initiated a refund process for customers who previously paid for electricity meters under the Meter Asset Provider programme. The electricity distribution company made this announcement during its September virtual stakeholder engagement, a monthly meeting that provides customers with updates and addresses service-related issues. This move aims to provide customers with a seamless experience and ensure they receive refunds efficiently.

Eligible customers will receive their refunds as credits added to their electricity vending transactions during the approved refund period. Ikeja Electric has provided a refund dashboard that allows customers to check the status of their refunds online using their meter or account numbers. The dashboard displays detailed information, including the cost of the meter, number of refunds made, monthly refund amount, total amount refunded, and the date of the last refund.

The refund dashboard also provides the applicable refund token, which is sent to the customer’s registered phone number or email address. This token serves as a unique identifier for the refund transaction. Ikeja Electric has advised customers with questions or complaints about their meter refunds to use its official complaint channels or visit the nearest undertaking office for assistance.

During the stakeholder engagement, Ikeja Electric also warned customers against using unauthorised electricians. Olaniyi Olayiwola, Head of Quality, Health, Safety and Environment, highlighted recent incidents involving unsafe electrical work that had led to fatalities. He emphasised the importance of engaging qualified personnel for electrical work to prevent accidents.

Olayiwola advised customers not to allow unqualified persons to climb Ikeja Electric poles, work on power lines, tamper with electrical installations, or carry out illegal connections. He also urged residents and communities to maintain a safe distance from high-voltage power lines, citing encroachment on electricity infrastructure and inadequate space around power lines as major safety concerns.

Kingsley Okotie, Head of Corporate Communications, urged customers to rely on Ikeja Electric’s official communication and complaint channels for accurate information and quick resolution of complaints. He emphasised that the company’s engagement with customers aimed not only to provide information but also to help them stay safe, seek assistance, and resolve their concerns efficiently.

Ikeja Electric’s initiative to provide refunds and promote safety awareness demonstrates its commitment to customer satisfaction and safety. The company’s efforts to engage with customers and address their concerns through various channels have been commended by stakeholders. As the company continues to implement measures to improve its services, customers are encouraged to take advantage of the refund process and prioritise their safety.
