The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has taken a decisive step in response to the abduction of 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps members in Imo State. According to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, the abduction occurred on October 1, 2026, along the Owerri-Onitsha Road, around Umunoha, in Imo State. The victims included prospective corps members and other passengers. In response, Nadada conducted an on-the-spot assessment, reviewed operational strategies, and issued directives to strengthen the coordinated response.

The assessment was conducted alongside key officials, including Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, and Commissioner of Police, Federal Operations, CP Akpan Anifiok. Other attendees included the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Police Mobile Force, service commanders, and members of the Imo State Police Command management team.

The search-and-rescue operation has been intensified with the deployment of additional tactical teams and operational assets across identified areas. The operation is supported by intelligence-led tracking of suspects and coordinated efforts with sister security agencies. The police have assured the public of their commitment to securing the safe rescue of the abducted persons.

DIG Nadada assured members of the public that the police remain committed to securing the safe rescue of the abducted persons. He urged the public and media to remain calm and vigilant while encouraging anyone with credible information to contact the police or nearest security formation.
