Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, recently attended the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Diocese of Edo-Delta, Wesley Cathedral, Benin-Sapele Road, Benin City, where he served as Chief Harvester at the 2026 Diocesan Harvest and Lay Preachers Recognition Service. Idahosa highlighted the importance of thanksgiving as an expression of gratitude to God for His blessings and favour. The event took place on Sunday, September 27, 2026. Idahosa joined communicants in songs of thanksgiving.
During the event, Idahosa was honoured with an award in recognition of his presence and contributions towards the building of the Bishop’s Chapel. He explained his decision to attend the service, citing the Methodist Church as one of the oldest Christian denominations and his tremendous respect for the Bishop of the Edo-Delta Diocese, Right Rev. Dr. Nosakhare Nosayaba. Idahosa described being in the presence of God as a great opportunity.
Idahosa pledged to fulfil his commitment towards the ongoing church project to ensure its completion. Former Edo State Governor, Chief Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion, was also honoured as co-harvester and was represented at the event by his son, Eghe Nosakhare (Jnr). Eghe spoke on behalf of his father, describing any project that advances the kingdom of God and promotes the spread of the gospel as a noble undertaking.
Eghe Nosakhare (Jnr) said it was a privilege to give thanks to God and give back to the church through thanksgiving. The Chairman of the Harvest Organising Committee, Prof. Yinka Omorogbe, revealed that the committee had resolved to channel the proceeds of the Harvest of Gratitude towards the completion of a new church project located along the bypass.
According to Omorogbe, the initiative aimed to ensure that the facility would be completed and opened for worship. She described churches as generational institutions and urged children who had moved to other denominations to maintain a connection with the churches in which their parents worshipped.
Earlier, the Bishop of the Methodist Church, Diocese of Edo-Delta, Right Rev. Dr. Nosakhare Nosayaba, commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for his people-oriented policies. The Bishop explained that the award recipients were nominated in recognition of their contributions to the development of the church.
The event showcased the significance of thanksgiving and its role in expressing gratitude to God. Key stakeholders, including government officials and church leaders, came together to celebrate the harvest and recognize outstanding contributions to the church. The Deputy Governor's participation underscored the importance of collaboration between the government and faith-based organizations.
