Horyal Investments Holding Company Ltd, a company jointly owned by the Government of Uganda, is seeking a Construction Manager/Project Manager to oversee the construction of a leading sugar factory in Atiak, Uganda. The factory has an annual production capacity of 60,000 tonnes of granular sugar. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering the canal works and will head the Client Construction Unit.
The Construction Manager/Project Manager will direct the construction programme, coordinate labour, plant, and materials, and establish weekly and monthly production targets. They will also chair construction coordination meetings, ensure timely inspection requests, and oversee the closure of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs). Additionally, they will manage interfaces between earthworks, structures, drainage, and lining.
The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Water, Agricultural, or equivalent Engineering, and be a registered or registrable professional engineer. They should have at least 10 years of relevant experience, including 5 years of construction management experience. The Construction Manager/Project Manager will be required to prepare monthly construction reports, monthly and weekly production plans, and RFI/NCR status reviews.
The sugar factory project involves the construction of a 28.8 km canal corridor and associated structures. The Construction Manager/Project Manager will be responsible for converting approved drawings, specifications, and method statements into coordinated work packages and measurable production targets. They will also coordinate with the part-time Consultant and ensure that no activity starts without current approved drawings and required setting-out information.
The successful candidate will be required to maintain the construction risk register and escalate risks affecting safety, hydraulic performance, quality, cost, or completion date. They will also review daily and weekly productivity against resources deployed and implement corrective measures. The Construction Manager/Project Manager will verify readiness of completed sections for inspection, testing, commissioning, as-built survey, and handover.
