Hope Health Action (HHA), a Christian charity, is seeking a gifted East African leader for the position of East Africa Director. The successful candidate will provide regional strategic leadership across HHA's Uganda and South Sudan operations, leading two Country Directors and serving as the principal liaison with HHA International. Based in Moyo, Uganda, the Director will be accountable to the HHA East Africa Board for strategy, performance, and appraisal.

The East Africa Director will play a crucial role in shaping HHA's mission in the region, leading a transitional change-leadership role that will initially focus on stabilizing operations and strengthening processes and systems. The Director will mentor and upskill local leadership, particularly in project management and finance, while providing hands-on support in selected finance, HR, and operational matters.
As the East Africa Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for regional direction and foresight, leading regional strategy and helping Country Directors design country strategies aligned with HHA's global mission. The Director will scan the regional environment for changing needs, policy shifts, funding trends, and partnership possibilities, translating insight into choices on where HHA should deepen, adapt, or scale its operations.
The East Africa Director will also lead the East Africa senior team, building a purposeful, collaborative team across the Uganda and South Sudan Country Directors and other senior members. The Director will set clear expectations, provide supervision, and offer constructive challenge, coaching, and performance review, with focused mentoring in project management and finance during transition.
In terms of portfolio performance and assurance, the East Africa Director will work alongside Country Directors to maintain an executive view of delivery, outcomes, grants, people, safeguarding, security, compliance, and financial sustainability. The Director will review and assure country-team performance, holding relevant country leaders accountable for sound budgets, forecasts, and programme-finance alignment.
The successful candidate will be a gifted East African leader with experience in regional strategy, leadership, and growth. The East Africa Director will be responsible for creating a culture of hope, justice, humility, love, passion, dignity, and service, while ensuring material risks are escalated promptly to HHA International and relevant Boards. The position is a fixed-term contract, and applications closed on 16 October.
