The High Court of Ghana has issued a warrant for the arrest of Agyei Baffour Awuah, the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South. This development is connected to an ongoing investigation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) into alleged unauthorised financial transactions. The court also granted EOCO the authority to search for and seize documents relevant to the investigation.

According to EOCO, the MP had allegedly failed to honour invitations issued to him since February 2026. The Office expressed concern that documents connected to the investigation could be concealed, altered or destroyed if the requested orders were not granted. EOCO applied for the orders, citing unsuccessful efforts to secure the MP's voluntary attendance for questioning.

The investigation concerns alleged financial loss, dissipation of public funds, and money laundering related to SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited. EOCO's application indicated that the transactions under scrutiny occurred at this company. The Office had previously invited the MP for questioning in February 2026, but he did not comply.

A confrontation occurred at the Accra High Court on September 23, when EOCO officers attempted to arrest Mr Baffour Awuah. The Office explained that the attempted arrest was part of the investigation for which the MP had been invited twice in February 2026. The court has now provided EOCO with legal authority to arrest the MP and conduct searches and seizures.

However, Mr Baffour Awuah has challenged EOCO's account of the matter. The MP stated that the investigation relates to SIC Life Savings and Loans Company, which had previously engaged his former law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners. He claimed that after receiving EOCO's February invitation, he referred the matter to the Clerk to Parliament.

A representative of his former law firm appeared before EOCO investigators on March 4, March 18, and April 30, 2026. The representative provided information requested by the investigators, including a written statement. This contradicts EOCO's claims that the MP had not cooperated with the investigation.

The court's latest orders direct EOCO to execute the arrest through the Speaker of Parliament. This implies that the parliamentary process will be involved in the arrest of the sitting MP. The development marks a significant escalation in the ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities at SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited.
