The 5th edition of the K2R-54 classic scrabble tournament took place on September 19th in four cities across Benin, including Cotonou, Glazoué, Natitingou, and Parakou. A total of 78 participants took part in the event, which was initiated by Colonel-major Roland Renaud Kouton and supported by Professor Dandi Gnamou, President of the High Court of Justice. The tournament was held to celebrate the 54th anniversary of the senior officer and featured 11 rounds of competition.
The Cotonou center, located at the Benin Scrabble Federation headquarters in Godomey, hosted 46 players who competed against each other in a series of matches. The tournament saw duels between top players, confrontations between mid-table players, and oppositions between young and experienced players. Some matches even featured father-son encounters, adding a unique touch to the competition.
Hermann Noumonvi emerged as the winner of the tournament, securing 10 victories and suffering only one defeat. He took home the trophy and a prize of 50,000 CFA francs. Gevron Tchiakpè finished second with 9 victories and 2 defeats, while Hervé Ayodélé Boni secured third place. Noumonvi attributed his victory to daily practice and exercise.
According to Noumonvi, the turning point of the tournament came during the ninth round when he made an error in his match against Hervé Boni. Instead of getting discouraged, he chose to continue competing with serenity, which ultimately allowed him to maintain his lead until the end. This victory marks a milestone in the progression of a new generation of Benin scrabble players.
The tournament's organizer, Roland Renaud Kouton, expressed satisfaction with the event's success, citing good attendance and a positive atmosphere.
