England captain Harry Kane has equaled the national team's all-time appearance record after starting against the Czech Republic in the UEFA Nations League. The Bayern Munich striker made his 125th international appearance, drawing level with former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton. Shilton represented the Three Lions between 1970 and 1990. Kane now has the chance to become England's most-capped player outright when the national team faces Croatia at Wembley Stadium on November 12.
Kane's milestone was marked with a goal against the Czech Republic, taking his tally to 11 goals for club and country this season. Morgan Rogers provided the assist for the goal. Kane entered the match already holding England's record for international goals, with 89 goals in 124 appearances. He is 36 goals ahead of Wayne Rooney, who ranks second on the national team's all-time scoring list.
Kane's international career began in March 2015, when he scored just 80 seconds after coming on as a substitute against Lithuania. He was appointed England captain in 2018 and has remained a key figure for the national team since then. Kane's dedication and continued performances have drawn praise from Shilton, who congratulated him in a video message shared on social media.
Shilton believes Kane's hard work and dedication could allow him to establish an appearance record that may prove difficult to break. "You're still strong, Harry, playing well and scoring goals, and I know how much dedication and hard work you've already put into achieving this," Shilton said. Kane's next appearance for England could therefore mark another historic moment.
If Kane features against Croatia in November, he will move beyond Shilton and stand alone at the top of England's all-time appearances list. The milestone would add another major achievement to a career in which Kane has already established himself as the country's leading international goalscorer and one of its most important players of the modern era.
Kane's achievements have been recognized by fans and pundits alike, with many praising his consistency and goal-scoring ability. He has been a key player for England in major tournaments, including the World Cup and European Championships. Kane's record-breaking appearance has sparked debate about his legacy and place in English football history.
As Kane looks to cement his place in English football history, he will be focused on helping England achieve success in upcoming tournaments. With his record-breaking appearance and goal-scoring form, Kane will be a key player for England in the coming months. His next appearance could mark a new chapter in his illustrious career.
