Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has emphasized the need for Nigeria to invest in local innovations, reliable electricity, and critical infrastructure to drive economic growth and improve citizens' welfare. He made this statement at the seventh anniversary of Real Talk With Kike and the celebration of broadcaster Kikelomo Atanda-Owo Abati's over 20 years in the media industry, held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Dr. Hamzat stressed that the country must move beyond consuming imported technology to developing local innovations, creating intellectual property, and exporting homegrown solutions. He also highlighted that unreliable electricity remains a major constraint on businesses and emphasized that government commitments must translate into dependable power supply.

The deputy governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, noted that the impact of electricity reforms should be measured by their benefits to businesses and households. He added that "a factory cannot run on a promise," underscoring the importance of tangible results from government policies and investments.

Dr. Hamzat also called for improved transportation, digital connectivity, and long-term financing to support infrastructure development and enterprise. He urged the government and private sector to work together to ensure that policies and investments deliver tangible benefits to Nigerians.

The deputy governor highlighted the role of the creative industry, noting that culture is not only a source of national identity but also an avenue for job creation and international influence. He also underscored the importance of a free and responsible press, emphasizing that journalists must uphold accuracy, fairness, independence, and the public interest.

Other speakers at the event, including the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, and the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, also shared their perspectives on effective governance, communication, and societal values. They emphasized the need for public officials to focus on measurable results and bridge the gap between policy formulation and implementation.

The event, which featured a documentary and a musical performance, was a milestone in the career of broadcaster Kikelomo Atanda-Owo Abati, reflecting on her experience in broadcasting and print journalism.
