Dr. Kadri Hamzat, the current Deputy Governor of Lagos State, has declared himself the best candidate for the 2027 Lagos governorship election. He made this statement at the 70th Harvest Anniversary and Thanksgiving Service of the Cherubim and Seraphim Society, Olorunsogo Parish, Ese-Ofin, Lagos. Hamzat attributed his suitability to his thorough understanding of the state's history and politics, which he believes is crucial for effective governance.
Hamzat emphasized the importance of understanding a state's history and politics to govern effectively. He expressed concern about politicians who make unrealistic promises during election campaigns. According to him, such individuals may not be able to deliver on their promises, and voters should be cautious. Hamzat shared his personal story, revealing that he was working in New York in 2005 when he was invited by then-Governor Bola Tinubu to join his government in Lagos. Since then, he has held various positions, including Commissioner for Science and Technology, Commissioner for Works, and currently, Deputy Governor. His experience in government, he believes, has prepared him to lead the state.
Other attendees at the event included Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, wife of the Lagos State Governor, who expressed her delight in celebrating the 70th Harvest Anniversary with church members. She appreciated the Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, for his contributions to the community. The event was attended by traditional rulers, APC chieftains, Lagos State commissioners, local government chairmen, and members of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Rev. Esther Ajayi, Founder of Love of Christ Generation Church, urged Nigerians to continue praying for their leaders. She prayed for God's mercy, emphasizing its importance in enabling people to excel in life. The event featured a medical outreach program, which was part of the anniversary celebrations organized by the church.
The Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, explained that the anniversary was organized to give back to society. The celebrations included a Night of Praise, a medical outreach program, and the Harvest Anniversary service. Ojelabi urged Nigerians to draw closer to God and have faith in Him, emphasizing the importance of imbibing Christian values in their activities.
