As the new school year approaches, the Direction communale de l'éducation (DCE) in Tombolia, Guinea, is working tirelessly to ensure a successful start. According to Moussa Aye Kaba, Director of the DCE, several preparatory meetings have been held with school administrators, representatives of the Association des Parents d'Elèves et Amis (APAE), and local authorities. The DCE has deployed teams to inspect schools, focusing on cleanliness and toilet facilities. Tombolia has 20 public schools, including 10 elementary schools, 2 Franco-Arab schools, and 8 secondary schools. With the support of the APAE, school administrators, and local communities, five schools have already benefited from renovation work, including the Dr Ibrahima Fofana high school and the Enta Nord elementary school.
One notable example of successful collaboration is the Koshiro school, which initially lacked basic facilities. Through community mobilization and APAE support, the school has undergone rehabilitation work, including painting. Additionally, a new borehole has been provided for the M'Balia high school, thanks to the founder's assistance. Further work is planned, including the renovation of the Enta Sud elementary school and the rehabilitation of the Dapompa Franco-Arab school, with the help of a non-governmental organization.
The DCE is optimistic about the new school year, citing the achievements of Tombolia students in the previous academic year. Two students were admitted to the prestigious military prytanée, a source of pride for the education authorities and stakeholders. The success of these students is seen as a motivation for the upcoming academic year.
To accommodate growing student numbers, the DCE has announced plans to build a new college within the M'Balia Camara high school. This development aims to address infrastructure needs and provide students with better learning conditions.
