As the first edition of the Simandou Mining Summit approaches, scheduled for November 11-14, 2026, in Conakry, Guinea's Minister Director of the Presidential Cabinet, Djiba Diakité, has outlined the country's expectations from investors. The government aims to transform the Simandou project into a driver of economic growth through local processing of mineral resources, infrastructure development, and participation of Guinean companies. Diakité emphasized that Simandou is not just a mine, but a corridor for prosperity and development.

The Simandou project offers significant investment opportunities, particularly in local processing of iron ore with a high-grade content of over 65%, and development of essential infrastructure for the country's industrialization. Diakité highlighted these opportunities, stating that investors can engage in local transformation of world-class ore and contribute to major infrastructure development. This approach aligns with President Mamadi Doumbouya's vision for the country's economic growth.

Guinea's government prioritizes sustainable investments that contribute to the country's socio-economic development. Diakité stressed that the country seeks partners who can commit to long-term development, rather than short-term gains. He emphasized that investors should bring capital, technology, training, and market access, while Guinean operators provide expertise in project execution.

To attract reliable partners, the government will continue to implement reforms and secure the investment climate, favoring projects that are ready for financing. The CTG (Compagnie du Transguinéen) experience in the Simandou megaproject illustrates this approach, where the state collaborates with industrial partners of different nationalities and interests to share costs and risks.

Diakité emphasized the importance of prioritizing Guinean employment, facilitating access to markets for Guinean companies, and strengthening training to ensure technology and competency transfer. He identified three essential conditions for investment: prioritizing Guinean workers, providing business opportunities for Guinean companies, and promoting training for better competency and technology transfer.

The Minister considers local content a factor in investment sustainability, ensuring that investors commit to long-term partnerships. He assured that local content is not an imposed constraint but a guarantee of investment durability. This approach aims to create a mutually beneficial partnership between investors and the Guinean government.

The upcoming Simandou Mining Summit will provide a platform for investors to engage with the Guinean government and explore opportunities in the country's mining sector. With a focus on sustainable development and local content, Guinea aims to establish long-term partnerships that drive economic growth and benefit the local population.
