The National Chamber of Judicial Officers of Guinea has suspended all professional activities across the country until further notice. This decision follows the detention of two judicial officers at the central prison in Coyah, in connection with a case pending before the Court of Repression of Economic and Financial Crimes (CRIEF). The suspension was announced on October 8, 2026, after an extraordinary general assembly of the National Chamber of Judicial Officers of Guinea.

The detained judicial officers are Me Sory Daouda Camara, the outgoing president and honorary president of the National Chamber, and Me Mandjou Sangaré. According to Me Jean-Pierre Pépé Béavogui, secretary general of the National Chamber, the detention has caused great concern among the members. He explained that two extraordinary general assemblies were held, resulting in several resolutions, including the suspension of activities related to the judicial officer profession nationwide.

Me Béavogui emphasized that the judicial officer profession is a crucial part of the judicial chain and requires protection. He stated that judicial officers must be able to exercise their profession in conditions that guarantee their safety. If these guarantees are not provided, he warned that judicial officers will take measures to protect themselves.

The secretary general revealed that several attempts were made to obtain the provisional release of the detained judicial officers. He explained that during two hearings, the Chamber requested that the texts requiring the Chamber's opinion before intercepting a case be respected, and that the detained judicial officers be released on provisional liberty.

Me Béavogui expressed disappointment that the request for provisional release was rejected during the second hearing. He also highlighted the poor health conditions of the detained judicial officers, particularly Me Sory Daouda Camara, who has undergone two throat surgeries and has a scheduled appointment on December 2, 2026.

According to Me Béavogui, the National Chamber of Judicial Officers believes that the necessary guarantees were not taken to allow the two detained judicial officers to respond to the procedure. He stressed that there is no justification for their detention, especially since the institution before which they must respond has offered all the necessary guarantees.

The suspension of activities by the National Chamber of Judicial Officers of Guinea has significant implications for the country's judicial system. The Chamber has confirmed that no judicial officer activities will be carried out until further notice, citing the need for protection and guarantees for its members.
