The Guinean Model of the United Nations (GUIMUN) launched its second edition of diplomatic simulations at the University of Gamal Abdel Nasser in Conakry on November 4, 2026. The event was attended by Minister of Youth, Lansana Béa Diallo, and representatives from the French embassy. This year's theme focuses on the role of new technologies and artificial intelligence in promoting global peace and security. The simulations aim to engage young people in diplomatic efforts and international relations.

A total of 244 delegates from various universities across Guinea are participating in the 72-hour event. They will engage in formal and informal debates, culminating in the development and voting of resolutions on the use of new technologies in conflict prevention and peace promotion. The initiative is part of GUIMUN's efforts to educate young people about diplomacy and international relations. According to Hadja Kadiatou Diallo, the general coordinator of GUIMUN, around 500 young people have benefited from training and simulations since March 2026.

The simulations involve delegates representing 193 UN member states, international organizations, and observer countries. They will work on a decade-long action program that reflects the youth's vision on issues related to digital technology and artificial intelligence. The program aims to harness the potential of new technologies to promote peace and security. Mamoudou Nagnalen Barry, the ambassador for this edition, encouraged the young participants to believe in their potential and develop their skills.

Minister of Youth, Lansana Béa Diallo, urged the participants to develop their competencies, sense of responsibility, and ability to defend Africa's interests. He emphasized the importance of promoting dialogue, integrity, negotiation, and teamwork to address the continent's challenges. The minister's remarks underscored the significance of engaging young people in decision-making processes.

The GUIMUN initiative is a socio-educational and volunteer-based effort that seeks to familiarize young people with diplomatic mechanisms and international relations. The program has made significant progress since its inception, with hundreds of young people benefiting from its activities. The simulations are expected to yield concrete outcomes, including resolutions and a long-term action plan.

The event is taking place at a critical time when the world is grappling with the challenges and opportunities presented by new technologies and artificial intelligence. The GUIMUN simulations provide a platform for young people to engage with these issues and contribute to the development of solutions. The participants' recommendations and resolutions are expected to be presented to relevant authorities and international organizations.

The GUIMUN simulations demonstrate the growing importance of engaging young people in diplomatic efforts and international relations. By providing a platform for young people to discuss and address global challenges, GUIMUN is helping to build a new generation of leaders who are equipped to tackle the complexities of the modern world. The second edition of the simulations is a significant milestone in this effort.
