The Ministry of Employment, Labor and Social Protection in Guinea is taking steps to improve the management and regulation of private employment agencies and temporary work companies. This move aims to promote transparent and fair recruitment practices, prevent abuse, and ensure better protection of workers' rights. An atelier was held in Conakry to validate a study report on strengthening the management and regulation of this sector.

The two-day atelier brought together representatives from public authorities, employer and union organizations, private employment agencies, and technical and financial partners. The event, organized by the National Employment and Entrepreneurship Directorate, was supported by the International Labor Bureau (ILB). Participants reviewed the report, provided feedback, and contributed to its improvement with a view to technical validation.

The atelier aimed to identify concrete actions to improve sector governance, strengthen control mechanisms, clarify administrative procedures, and promote transparent functioning of the Guinean labor market. Discussions focused on challenges related to the operation of private employment agencies and temporary work companies, including licensing and registration procedures, monitoring of operator activities, and application of sanctions.

The protection of migrant workers, prevention of abusive practices, and fight against discrimination in recruitment processes were also key discussion points. These issues highlight the need for a regulatory framework adapted to labor market realities, balancing enterprise recruitment needs with respect for workers' fundamental rights. The reflections align with the International Labor Organization (ILO) Convention 181 on private employment agencies.

The representative of the Guinean Workers' Confederation (CNTG) welcomed the ministry's initiative and expressed recognition to stakeholders who contributed to the study. He reaffirmed the union's willingness to collaborate with competent services and stakeholders to improve labor market functioning and ensure respect for workers' rights. The representative emphasized that union accompaniment is essential for workers, job seekers, and retirees.

The representative also stressed the importance of synergy between public institutions, employers, and worker organizations to guarantee respect for social rights and promote equitable access to professional opportunities. He highlighted economic perspectives linked to the Simandou 2040 program, which requires better anticipation of labor needs and increased valorization of national skills.

The representative of the National Confederation of Guinean Enterprises also welcomed the ministry's approach and emphasized that effective labor market functioning depends on the ability of actors to match available skills with enterprise needs. He stressed that private employment agencies and temporary work companies play a significant role in matching employers and candidates, facilitating recruitment, and satisfying personnel needs.
