On November 2, 2026, Guinea's Prime Minister, Amadou Oury Bah, officially launched the Dar-es-Salam landfill rehabilitation project in Conakry. The project, fully funded by Winning International Group, aims to close and rehabilitate the landfill, which has accumulated nearly 7.2 million tons of waste over the past thirty years. The ceremony was attended by Sun Xiushun, President of Winning International Group's Board of Directors, government officials, diplomatic representatives, local authorities, and media representatives.

The Dar-es-Salam landfill, covering an area of 28.8 hectares, has been a significant environmental concern for years. The site, meaning "House of Peace," has been plagued by pollution and security risks, affecting the lives of nearby residents. A recent landslide on August 23, 2026, resulted in loss of life and property damage, highlighting the urgent need for rehabilitation. The project will involve the secure closure and rehabilitation of the landfill, with a focus on transforming the site into an urban park.

The rehabilitation project, expected to last twelve months, will cover an area of approximately 18.8 hectares. The works will include reprofiling and compacting the waste mass, installing a high-density polyethylene geomembrane, and covering it with laterite and vegetation. The project also includes the installation of drainage systems to collect and evacuate rainwater and the creation of 80 vertical biogas capture wells. The collected gases will be directed towards a controlled combustion system.

Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah emphasized that the project aligns with Guinea's national sustainable development ambitions, as outlined in the Simandou 2040 program. He highlighted the project's concrete benefits for nearby populations, including securing the landfill, reducing nuisances, and transforming the site into a green urban space. The Prime Minister also acknowledged Winning International Group's commitment to financing and implementing the project.

Winning International Group's President, Sun Xiushun, paid tribute to the victims of the August landslide and expressed his condolences to their families. He emphasized the group's attachment to Guinea and its people, having been present in the country for twelve years. Sun Xiushun stated that Winning International Group is committed to improving the lives of local populations and contributing to the country's development.

The project is a partnership between the Guinean government and Winning International Group, with the Ministry of Sanitation, Hydraulics, and Hydrocarbons playing a key role. The agreement includes the transfer of ownership of the rehabilitated site to the Guinean government upon completion. Winning International Group, a Singapore-based multinational, has been actively involved in Guinea's development, particularly in the bauxite and iron ore sectors.

The rehabilitation of the Dar-es-Salam landfill is expected to have a significant impact on the environment and the lives of nearby residents. The project will not only address the environmental concerns but also provide a new green space for the population. With a focus on sustainable development, the project aligns with Guinea's national ambitions and demonstrates Winning International Group's commitment to contributing to the country's growth.
