The Ministry of Industry and Trade in Guinea has issued a warning regarding the quality of certain batches of BAMA mayonnaise sold in the country. Following reports of quality issues, authorities have confiscated 14,759 cartons of the imported product distributed by GB FOODS WEST AFRICA. The ministry has called on consumers and traders to take precautionary measures as analysis results are pending.

According to the ministry, samples of the affected batches are undergoing physico-chemical and microbiological analysis by the National Quality Control Office (ONCQ). The ministry has identified specific batches of BAMA mayonnaise, including formats 946 ml (32 oz) and 473 ml (16 oz), with batch numbers 2604203001, 2604303001, 2604403001, 2604503001, 2601203001, and 2601303001.

The ministry has urged consumers to immediately stop consuming, selling, and distributing the affected products. Those in possession of the products are advised to conserve them for the ONCQ services, pending further instructions. The ministry has also set up a hotline (627 245 327) for individuals who have experienced discomfort after consuming the mayonnaise.

Importers, distributors, wholesalers, and retailers are required to suspend all movements of the affected stock, declare the quantities held to the ONCQ, and facilitate control operations. The ministry has initiated administrative procedures against the company and requested a comprehensive report on the stock imported, distributed, and still in transit within the country.

The ministry has warned that failure to comply with the announced measures will result in sanctions as per the legislation in force. This incident raises concerns about the quality of food products sold in the Guinean market. Authorities have assured the public that they will be informed of the outcome of this operation once the official conclusions are published.

The seized products are part of a larger shipment imported and distributed by GB FOODS WEST AFRICA. The company's practices and quality control measures are under scrutiny as the investigation unfolds. The incident highlights the importance of quality control and regulatory oversight in ensuring public health and safety.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade, led by Aboubacar Kourouma, is taking steps to address the issue and prevent similar incidents in the future. The public is advised to remain vigilant and report any concerns about food quality to the relevant authorities.
