On September 9, 2026, the remodeled International Conference Centre in Enugu was packed as residents gathered to witness the launch and public presentation of a compendium titled, “A Thousand and One Reasons Why Governor Peter Mbah Should Continue as Governor of Enugu State” beyond 2027. The compendium, compiled by the Governor’s media team, highlights over 10,000 measurable milestones achieved by Mbah in the last three years across infrastructure, human capital development, revenue, industry, and governance.
Governor Peter Mbah, who took oath of office in May 2023, had presented his manifesto, titled, “Building a Peaceful and Secure, Highly Developed and Prosperous State for All” to the people of the state. He stated that his goal was to reposition the state as a preferred destination for investment, business, tourism, and living, with a target of growing the economy from approximately $4.4 billion to $30 billion within eight years.
The compendium highlights that the Mbah administration has made significant strides in improving the internally generated revenue (IGR) of the state. As of 2025, the state’s IGR has increased from N26.8 billion in 2022 to N406.77 billion in 2025. This development represents a fundamental shift in the state’s fiscal capacity, with only N51.5 billion, or 12.6 per cent, coming from tax revenue, while N355.2 billion came from non-tax sources.
The administration has invested in infrastructure development, including the construction of over 800 kilometers of roads in two years. The road programme has expanded to urban roads, inter-city roads, rural roads, and strategic gateway corridors. Additionally, the administration has dualized several major roads, including the Abakap –Nike-Ugwuogo –Nike-Ekwegbe –Opi –Nsukka corridor and the Enugu airport –Ebonyi border corridor.
The Mbah administration has prioritized human capital development, particularly in education. The state has embarked on an ambitious education infrastructure programme, building Smart Green Schools in each of the state’s 260 electoral wards. These schools are designed around digital learning, science, laboratories, modern classrooms, solar power, technology, and experiential learning.
The administration has also made significant investments in the healthcare sector. When Mbah took over in 2023, the primary health system was in distress, with 47 per cent of primary healthcare centres in disrepair and a shortage of primary healthcare workers. The administration has launched the construction and upgrading of 260 Type-2 primary healthcare centres for each electoral ward and approved the recruitment of thousands of health workers.
Governor Mbah’s scorecard showcases various achievements across sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, and revenue generation. The compendium highlights the administration’s efforts to reposition the state as a preferred destination for investment, business, tourism, and living. With this scorecard, Mbah aims to demonstrate his accomplishments and reinforce his claim that he deserves to be re-elected for a second term in office.
