The Government of Ghana has announced plans to develop the Banda District in the Bono Region into a major tourism destination hub within the next five years. According to Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister of Works, Housing and Water Resources, the district boasts rich tourism attraction sites, including the Hippo Sanctuary, Bui National Park, Bui Hydro Lake, Spider Village, and interesting archaeological sites and caves and mountains. The minister stated this during an inspection of ongoing physical infrastructure projects in the district.
Minister Ibrahim, also the Member of Parliament for Banda Constituency, emphasized that the government is working tirelessly to develop the district's tourism potential. He noted that the ongoing infrastructure development will position the district to become a tourist destination not only in Ghana but also beyond. The minister highlighted that Banda has the natural tourist attraction sites, and the government is developing the required physical and artificial tourist facilities to support the growth of the tourism industry in the area.
The minister inspected works on a modern community social centre and artificial pitch projects, which are about 90 percent complete. He expressed optimism that the district's tourism potential will take shape in the next few years. Minister Ibrahim also noted that the district offers significant opportunities for renewable energy development, citing a floating solar project at the Bui Generating Station, which could further enhance the tourism potential in the area.
Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa, expressed excitement about the number of physical infrastructure projects being undertaken in the district. He noted that the area has witnessed improvements in infrastructure development, including police stations, classroom blocks, teachers' accommodation, health centres, nurses' quarters, and water and sanitation facilities.
