Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, recently visited Ekwusigo Local Government Area to commission various projects initiated by the Chairman of the council, Hon. Chikezie James Obi. The projects were undertaken in line with Governor Soludo's six-point agenda aimed at developing the state. One of the significant initiatives implemented in the area of education is the introduction of tailoring and shoemaking into the curriculum of government-owned schools in Ekwusigo LGA. This skills acquisition programme aims to equip students with practical skills, aligning with Governor Soludo's vision of a "New Anambra." The programme was demonstrated at one of the schools, where seven students showcased their skills by producing a native outfit and a pair of shoes.
The seven students who participated in the skills acquisition programme approached Governor Soludo to take his measurements for clothes and shoes. Impressed by their work, the governor interacted with the students and promised to support them in gaining admission into universities to study engineering courses. This move aligns with his administration's goal of producing graduates with both certificates and practical skills.
Governor Soludo commended Hon. Chikezie Obi for deepening the implementation of the six pillars of his administration in Ekwusigo LGA and urged other Local Government Area chairmen to emulate him. The governor announced that the six government-owned schools implementing the skills acquisition programme had become schools of special interest to the state government.
As a reward for their hard work, Governor Soludo gifted the seven students who participated in the skills acquisition programme N500,000 each, totaling N3.5 million. Additionally, the six government-owned schools received N5 million each, bringing the total support to the schools to N30 million. This gesture demonstrates the governor's commitment to promoting education and skills acquisition in the state.
