On Sunday, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal launched the construction of a 95km road network in Tsafe Local Government Area. The project aims to improve security operations, facilitate the movement of goods, and boost economic activities in the area. The road network will link several communities, including Yandoton Daji, Cediya, Doka, Yan Waren Daji, Hayin Alhaji Bedi, Unguwar Joji, and Yankuzo to Tsafe, as well as construct five bridges.
The 95km road project is being executed in two phases, with the first phase covering 47km and the second phase covering 48km. SKY Construction Company was awarded the first phase, while Setraco Construction Company Limited is handling the second phase. Governor Lawal emphasized the importance of the project, stating that it will connect predominantly agricultural communities and contribute significantly to the state's economy.
The road project is part of Governor Lawal's administration's broader infrastructure renewal programme aimed at reconnecting communities and addressing long-standing infrastructure deficits across the state. Other ongoing projects include the Gusau-Magami-Dansadau Road, Zurmi-Rukudawa Road, and Mallamawa-Bukkuyum Road, with a spur to Masamar Mudi.
Governor Lawal highlighted that good roads are essential for safe transportation, efficient movement of goods, and economic growth. He expressed hope that the Tsafe project will stimulate economic activities and improve the quality of life of residents. The governor also directed the state Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to ensure effective supervision, quality assurance, and compliance with approved engineering standards throughout the project.
The governor warned contractors handling government projects to ensure value for money and quality workmanship. He emphasized that Zamfara State expects value for money, quality craft, and infrastructure capable of withstanding the test of time. Governor Lawal also expressed hope that the road will strengthen security, improve transportation, and foster greater integration among communities in Tsafe and its environs.
The road project is expected to improve the mobility of security agencies and their response to threats and attacks in the area. Governor Lawal stated that reconstructing the road will enhance the movement of goods and the mobility of security agencies, thereby improving operational capacity and response to threats or attacks. The project is part of the administration's efforts to address the challenging circumstances in these communities.
