The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Gombe State, Bala-Bello Tinka, has announced plans to provide free fuel for commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators if elected in the 2027 election. This initiative aims to mitigate the economic hardship caused by the removal of the fuel subsidy. Tinka made this disclosure during an interview with a local radio station in Gombe.

To demonstrate his commitment, Tinka has announced a one-day free fuel distribution for commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators to mark Nigeria's 66th Independence anniversary on October 1, 2026. Beneficiaries can collect fuel at designated filling stations in Gombe between 6 am and 6 pm. Tinka stated that this gesture is intended to enable them to celebrate the anniversary without the burden of fuel expenses for the day.

Tinka explained that commercial transport operators are among those worst affected by the removal of the fuel subsidy. He promised to sustain the free-fuel initiative as part of his administration's palliative measures for commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators if elected. This move is expected to provide relief to thousands of riders who rely on these vehicles for their livelihood.

Beyond the fuel intervention, Tinka outlined additional policies that would form the basis of his administration. On healthcare, he promised free medical treatment for children below five years and residents aged above 70. This initiative aims to reduce the financial burden on families and ensure that vulnerable members of the community receive necessary medical care.

Tinka also plans to overhaul the procurement of fertiliser by sourcing the commodity from local wholesalers rather than directly from manufacturers. This policy is expected to boost the local economy, create employment opportunities, and strengthen local agro-dealers. By doing so, Tinka's administration aims to promote sustainable agricultural practices and support local businesses.

The ADC candidate further promised to prioritise indigenous contractors in the execution of government projects. He stated that outsiders would only be engaged where the required technical expertise is unavailable in the state. This move is expected to promote local economic growth, empower indigenous contractors, and create jobs for Gombe residents.

Tinka also addressed the perennial water shortage in Gombe metropolis and other parts of the state. He promised to commission a comprehensive study to establish the root causes of the water crisis and develop measures to permanently address it. This initiative aims to provide a lasting solution to the water scarcity issue, which has been a longstanding challenge for residents.
