Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Member of Parliament for Ketu South, has commissioned and handed over a fully furnished six-unit classroom block to the Avoeme Basic School. The facility is equipped with desks and other furniture to address overcrowding and provide a more conducive environment for pupils and teachers. This initiative aims to improve educational infrastructure in the area.
Madam Gomashie plans to distribute about 3,000 additional desks to 16 basic schools across the Municipality. Avoeme Basic School has already received its allocation, separate from the desks provided with the newly commissioned classroom block. This donation is expected to reduce the financial burden on parents who previously had to provide furniture for their children.
Madam Gomashie revealed that she saved portions of her allocation as an MP for several months to finance the classroom project. She emphasized that investment in education should go beyond the provision of learning materials to include infrastructure and support for teachers. This commitment to education is part of her broader initiatives in Ketu South.
In addition to infrastructure development, Madam Gomashie has organised capacity-building training for mathematics teachers in the municipality. This training, in collaboration with a non-government organisation from Accra, aims to equip teachers with new approaches to teaching the subject. This initiative complements her efforts to improve educational outcomes.
Madam Gomashie's interventions in Ketu South extend beyond classroom infrastructure to skills training, health, and other human-capital development initiatives. She has renovated the Klikor Library, provided streetlights to communities, and invested in health and education across the three traditional areas of the Municipality. These efforts aim to build the capacity of residents.
The MP's initiatives also include scholarships and support for some students to pursue studies outside the country. She urged parents, teachers, and communities to work together to improve educational outcomes in Ketu South and the Volta Region. Collaboration among stakeholders is crucial for sustainable development.
The Head of Planning at the Ketu South Municipal Education Directorate, Mr Seth Akli, and the Headmaster of Avoeme Basic School, Mr William Katamani, expressed appreciation for Madam Gomashie's investment in education. They acknowledged the positive impact of her initiatives on the school and the community, and pledged to ensure proper maintenance of the facility.
