The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has launched an intensified fire safety education and inspection exercise in Ve Golokuati, a district capital in the Volta Region of Ghana. Led by District Fire Officer, Assistant Divisional Officer I (ADO I) Emmanuel Delali Agbleze, the exercise aims to prevent fire outbreaks in the district. The team visited various public places, including churches, filling stations, schools, and other areas, to educate residents on fire prevention and safety measures.

The education focused on key areas such as Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and electrical safety, bushfire prevention, and the proper use of fire extinguishers. The team also demonstrated rescue techniques and emphasized the importance of prompt reporting of emergencies. According to ADO I Agbleze, the exercise is part of the GNFS's ongoing efforts to prevent fires and promote community safety in the district.

ADO I Agbleze identified improper handling of LPG and faulty electrical connections as major causes of domestic fires in the area. He advised households to ensure proper wiring by qualified electricians and to handle gas cylinders with care. Additionally, he cautioned farmers and hunters against setting bushfires, especially as the dry season approaches, highlighting the destructive nature of bushfires on property, farms, and human lives.

The District Fire Officer also urged school authorities to regularly check electrical systems and ensure that fire extinguishers are available and functional. Filling stations were inspected to ensure compliance with fire safety standards. ADO I Agbleze emphasized that the initiative is part of the GNFS's efforts to prevent fires and promote community safety, appealing to residents to cooperate with the Service and report fire outbreaks promptly for swift response.

The exercise covered various public places, including churches, filling stations, and schools, where the team sensitized residents on fire prevention and safety measures. The team educated the public on the importance of having functional fire extinguishers and the need for regular electrical system checks. This move is expected to reduce the risk of fire incidents in the district.

ADO I Agbleze noted that public education and engagement would continue across the district to reduce fire incidents to the barest minimum. The GNFS aims to work closely with residents and stakeholders to promote fire safety and prevent fire outbreaks.
