Global Health Uganda (GHU), a registered not-for-profit organization, is seeking a qualified Study Medical Officer to join their team in Kampala, Uganda. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing medical and clinical oversight for study participants, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout the research study. GHU's mission is to promote child health by conducting and facilitating quality research in child health, neurodevelopment, and interventions.

The Study Medical Officer's primary duties will include identifying and screening patients for possible enrolment into the study, recruiting and enrolling eligible patients, and providing emergency and continuous medical care to study participants. The officer will also be responsible for obtaining consent from caregivers and older study participants, collecting and delivering samples to laboratories, and documenting and reporting adverse events.

To qualify for the position, applicants must have a Bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery from a recognized university, with full registration with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (UMDPC) and an Annual Practicing License (APL). A minimum of two years of clinical practice experience, completed Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Research Ethics training, and valid certificates are also required.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent clinical skills, experience working with children, and demonstrate high levels of integrity, professionalism, and accountability. Strong organizational and time-management skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, and experience with research database systems are also essential. Fluency in English and Luganda is necessary, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The Study Medical Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of site study staff, attending weekly study site meetings, and carrying out other duties as assigned by supervisors. The position requires a high level of detail orientation, proactivity, and self-motivation, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare and research team.
