Giza Governorate has announced a total closure on the 26th of July Axis and the Ring Road (Western Arc) heading toward 15th of May Bridge for a period of 5 days. The closure is part of the construction works for the Monorail project (Wadi El Nile – 6th of October Line) and to complete structural works at the Wadi El Nile Monorail Station on the 26th of July Axis. The governorate released an official statement explaining the closure.
The closure will initially begin on a trial basis without construction activity for 5 days, starting at 12:05 AM on Thursday, October 8, 2026, until the morning of Monday, October 12, 2026. This trial period aims to assess the impact of the closure on traffic flow prior to commencing actual construction once smooth traffic movement is ensured. The governorate is taking measures to minimize disruptions.
Following the trial, the full closure will remain in place for 6 months starting Monday morning, October 12, 2026, until the completion of the project works. During this time, traffic will be diverted through alternative routes. Giza Governorate has outlined two suggested alternative routes for vehicles coming from the Ring Road (Western Arc) above the 26th of July Axis bound for 15th of May Bridge.
The first alternative route involves taking the off-ramp leading to Sudan Street, continuing along Sudan Street until its intersection with Gamet El Dewal Al Arabeya Street, and then turning left onto Gamet El Dewal Al Arabeya Street heading toward 15th of May Bridge. This route is expected to reduce congestion on the affected area.
The second alternative route involves taking the off-ramp leading to Lebanon Square, entering Lebanon Street, turning left onto Shehab Street, and then turning left onto the surface road of the Wadi El Nile Tunnel to reach 26th of July Street toward 15th of May Bridge after bypassing the work zone. The governorate has placed traffic guidance and warning signs to ensure public safety.
The General Directorate of Giza Traffic, in coordination with the executing company, has deployed traffic personnel to facilitate vehicle movement and ensure smooth traffic flow. The personnel will be stationed around the work area to manage traffic and prevent accidents. The governorate is working to minimize disruptions to daily life.
The closure is part of the larger Monorail project, which aims to improve public transportation in the region. The project is expected to be completed in the coming months, with the Wadi El Nile Monorail Station being a key component. The governorate has assured that it is working to complete the project as soon as possible while ensuring public safety.
