God Is Good Mobility (GIGM) has introduced a 20% travel discount for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to ease their transportation costs amid Nigeria's economic challenges. The company also partnered with the NYSC to ensure the safe transportation of corps members to their places of primary assignment. This initiative is part of GIGM's commitment to youth development, as many young graduates and their families struggle with rising transportation costs.
The Chief Executive Officer of GIGM, Dr. Okhae Enahoro, disclosed this on Tuesday at the official opening of the company's new terminal in Gwagwalada, Abuja. Enahoro said his personal experience during the NYSC programme informed the decision to introduce the discount, as he considered it necessary to support young Nigerians at a critical stage of their lives. He acknowledged that the discount would affect the company's revenue but described it as an investment in the future of young Nigerians.
The partnership with the NYSC was partly driven by concerns over safety on Nigerian roads, with GIGM assuring that it had put measures in place to protect passengers. Beyond the discount, GIGM has sustained its youth empowerment initiative, known as GIGM Ambassadors, which allows young people to earn income by selling travel tickets through the company's mobile application. Participants receive a 10% commission on every ticket sold, providing an opportunity for unemployed youths to earn money.
GIGM has also expanded its services beyond interstate road transportation to include flight bookings, holiday packages, hotel reservations, and vehicle hire. The company introduced HireX, a vehicle-hiring service for customers who need cars for movement within cities, and PASS by GIGM, which provides travel and holiday booking services. This expansion aims to provide a one-stop-shop for travel and transportation needs.
The new terminal in Gwagwalada was established to bring GIGM's passenger transport and logistics services closer to residents of the area while creating employment opportunities. Enahoro urged residents and community leaders to take ownership of the facility and support efforts to maintain security around the premises. The Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Gwagwalada, Assistant Corps Commander Uche Amaku, commended GIGM for its collaboration with the agency and commitment to passenger safety.
The FRSC and police have pledged their support for GIGM's operations, with Amaku describing Gwagwalada as a strategic gateway to the Federal Capital Territory. Chief Superintendent of Police Bilikisu Shuaib assured the company of the police's support in maintaining security around its operations, stressing that safety is a collective responsibility. She congratulated GIGM on the opening of the facility, which she identified as the company's 40th branch.
GIGM has established operations in Nigeria and Ghana, with plans to expand into Côte d'Ivoire in 2027 through the launch of a new terminal. The company continues to strengthen its presence across West Africa, with a focus on providing safe and reliable transportation services. The 20% discount for NYSC members is a significant initiative, demonstrating GIGM's commitment to supporting young Nigerians during a critical stage of their lives.
