The officer pursued the motorbike and signalled the rider to stop, but the rider allegedly carried on through the Okponglo traffic light and the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange onto the Tema Motorway.
After the Old Tollbooth, the prosecution alleges that Corporal Koranteng kicked the motorbike with his leg as he chased it. The rider lost control, and the bike crashed into a concrete barrier. Corporal Koranteng allegedly did not stop or arrange immediate medical help before speeding away. Ivan was pronounced dead on arrival at the Tema General Hospital, while the rider was treated and discharged.
Corporal Koranteng was arraigned before the Adabraka District Court on September 15, 2026, and charged with intentionally causing death by unlawful harm, contrary to Section 46 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
