The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors (CBOD), Dr Patrick Kwaku Ofori, has assured consumers that Ghana will not experience fuel shortages or queues at filling stations throughout December 2026. He stated that adequate supply arrangements had been secured to ensure the uninterrupted availability of petroleum products for consumers and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) during the period. This assurance was made on Joy News’ PM Express Business Edition.

Dr Ofori mentioned that all necessary cargo arrangements had been secured to meet the country’s fuel requirements through December. He expressed confidence that by the end of the year, up till December, the country would have all the cargo locked in. This arrangement would ensure the safe delivery of petroleum products and prevent shortages that could result in long queues at fuel stations.

According to Dr Ofori, bulk oil distributors had remained committed to supplying the domestic market despite a challenging situation in the petroleum industry. Major industry players have consistently prioritised the Ghanaian market before considering exports to neighbouring countries. This practice has contributed to the consistent availability of petroleum products in the country.

Dr Ofori attributed the consistent availability of petroleum products to responsible business practices among CBOD members. The chamber maintains internal oversight to prevent unfair practices and protect consumers. Additionally, the chamber engages transparently with the industry regulator and encourages members to operate ethically.

The CBOD CEO acknowledged that disagreements could sometimes arise within the industry but stressed that distributors must be able to sell products they have already imported and priced to recover their investments and meet financial obligations to trading partners and banks. He maintained that responsible industry practices, effective oversight, and secured supply arrangements would help sustain fuel availability and prevent disruptions in the domestic market.

Dr Ofori further noted that the chamber self-regulates and ensures that nobody takes advantage of the consuming public. This self-regulation, combined with secured supply arrangements, would help maintain fuel availability throughout December. The CBOD's efforts aim to prevent fuel shortages and queues, ensuring a smooth supply of petroleum products to consumers.

The assurance from CBOD comes as a relief to consumers, who might have been concerned about potential fuel shortages during the festive season. With secured supply arrangements in place, consumers can expect a stable fuel supply throughout December. The CBOD's commitment to responsible business practices and internal oversight will continue to play a crucial role in maintaining fuel availability in the country.
