The Minority in Parliament of Ghana is calling for the immediate dismissal of Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA). They are accused of involvement in visa fraud activities related to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Minority claims both officials must be investigated for allegedly collecting and moving money, preparing and transmitting institutional lists, and creating non-existent positions to facilitate the fraud.

The Ranking Member on the Youth and Sports Committee of Parliament, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, addressed journalists in Parliament on October 7, 2026. He stated that persons found culpable after the probe must be prosecuted. The Minority argues that the continued stay of both officials in office could undermine public confidence in the investigation. They demand a full investigation into the alleged criminal activities.

The Minority alleges that the Sports Minister and the GTA CEO could not have been unaware of the fraudulent activity. They demand an investigation into the Minister's knowledge, authorization, participation, and role in the process. The GTA's relationship with Tribe Culture Fest, which submitted a list of 50 persons to the United States Embassy as media personnel, is also under scrutiny.

The list submitted to the US Embassy included 50 persons purportedly identifying themselves as media personnel for World Cup activities. However, after verification by the US Embassy's Fraud Prevention Unit, questions were raised about the authenticity and professional status of a significant number of persons submitted. Only two out of the 50 names were identified as media practitioners.

The Minority disclosed that 48 out of the 50 persons submitted were not media practitioners. They cited records available to them, highlighting the discrepancies in the list submitted by the GTA. The Minority stresses that the GTA Boss and other officials who may have authorized or facilitated the fraud should face prosecution.

The Minority's demands come as a result of growing concerns over the alleged visa fraud. They argue that the Sports Minister and the GTA CEO's positions are compromised due to the questions surrounding their roles in the fraudulent activities. The public's confidence in the investigation is at stake, according to the Minority.

The case is set to unfold with investigations and potential prosecutions. The Minority's call for immediate dismissal and prosecution of those involved is clear. As the situation develops, further actions and reactions from the government and other stakeholders are expected.
