Residents of Mempaasem, a suburb of Kwame Danso in the Sene West District of Ghana, and surrounding communities are set to benefit from a new ultramodern health facility. The facility, which features a delivery room, consultation rooms, and sanitation facilities, will serve Mempaasem, Kwame Danso Secondary School, Banyako, Dada, Kaleb, and other adjoining communities. This development brings relief to residents who previously had to rely solely on the district hospital at Kwame Danso for healthcare services.
The Bono East Regional Minister, Francis Owusu Antwi, inspected the facility and expressed satisfaction with the quality and speed of work. He noted that the structure is almost ready, with only commissioning left to be done. The Minister commended the district assembly for the furnishing and equipment supplied, describing it as impressive and not what is typically seen in most facilities.
The District Director of Health for Sene West, Alhaji Mohammed Tahiru, confirmed that the facility is ready to be taken over for operations. He commended the District Chief Executive, the Member of Parliament, and all stakeholders for their collaboration in bringing the project to fruition. The facility is expected to play a crucial role in addressing the lack of an additional government health facility in the district capital.
The District Chief Executive for Sene West, Mr. Khaari Fuseini, explained that the construction of the facility is in response to the President's free primary healthcare policy. He noted that, apart from the district hospital at Kwame Danso, there is no government health facility in the town, and the new facility will enable residents to benefit from the policy. Mr. Fuseini added that the contractor has done a good job, and all medical equipment needed for operations has been supplied.
Alhaji Tahiru further explained that the new facility will help address the lack of an additional government health facility in the district capital. He noted that the free primary healthcare policy covers CHPS compounds, health centres, and polyclinics, but not district hospitals. The Mempaasem facility will therefore serve the people of Kwame Danso and enable them to benefit from the policy.
The District Director of Health revealed that when he assumed office, the building was almost completed but not fully finished. He requested the DCE to support with equipment, and the assembly has supplied all the items requested. Alhaji Tahiru stated that human resource has already been allocated, including a physician assistant, a midwife, curative and preventive nurses.
Although the structure was built as a CHPS compound, it will start operations as a health centre. The facility is awaiting commissioning, after which health personnel will move in. The new health facility is expected to significantly improve healthcare services in the area and provide relief to residents who previously had to travel long distances to access medical care.
