The Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL) has invested €1.5 million in new equipment to establish a security printing press. This move is part of efforts to expand its operations and compete in the specialised printing industry. The equipment is expected to arrive in Ghana in November 2026. Managing Director of the company, Nana Kwasi Boaitey Esq., announced this during the Government Accountability Series at the Presidency.

The new facility is expected to position the company to compete in the printing of sensitive documents, including cheque books and potentially passports. The investment forms part of a broader modernisation programme aimed at transforming the company into a more competitive and technologically advanced printing institution. When the current management assumed office in February 2025, the company did not have a digital printing press.

Management subsequently mobilised resources to establish a digital press, which was inaugurated by President John Dramani Mahama in January 2026. The facility is equipped with the necessary machinery to support modern digital printing operations. The company has also undertaken significant improvements to its physical infrastructure, including the refurbishment of its frontage and replacement of signage.

The company has introduced digital platforms to improve accessibility and customer experience. An electronic gazette platform allows customers to apply for gazettes online without physically visiting the company’s offices. An electronic bookshop enables members of the public to purchase Acts of Ghana online and have them delivered to their locations.

The investments were made despite significant liquidity challenges inherited by the current management. The Managing Director expressed confidence that the establishment of the security press, alongside existing digital and offset printing facilities, would strengthen the company’s capacity to undertake more specialised printing assignments.

The security press will enable the company to compete in the specialised printing industry and generate additional revenue. Management remains committed to positioning the Ghana Publishing Company as a leading player in the printing and publishing industry. The company has made significant strides in modernising its operations.
