A double murder occurred at NTHC Estate in Sakumono, Accra, on Friday, 30 October, claiming the lives of George Atuguba, 57, and his niece Irene, 47. According to the Ghana Police Service, the victims were shot dead at their home. Preliminary investigations suggest the killings may have been triggered by a financial dispute over an unpaid GH¢500,000 loan. The police have identified the principal suspect as Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, who remains at large.

The police have arrested a 47-year-old woman, Beatrice Mumuni, in connection with the murder. She is believed to have led Osei Anto to the house where the victims were killed. A statement signed by Chief Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs at the Accra Regional Police Command, revealed that George Atuguba had allegedly borrowed GH¢500,000 from Osei Anto and failed to repay it. This led to Osei Anto and Mumuni visiting the house to demand repayment.

On the morning of the incident, a misunderstanding allegedly followed, during which Osei Anto shot and killed George Atuguba and his niece. Officers from the Sakumono District Police Command found the bodies lying in a pool of blood and rushed them to hospital, where they were pronounced dead. The bodies have been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy. The Baatsona Divisional Police Command is leading the investigation into the double murder.

The Ghana Police Service is offering a GH¢100,000 reward for credible information leading to Osei Anto’s arrest. Anyone with information can report to the nearest police station or call 191 or 18555. This is not the first time the police have offered such a reward; in May, they declared a suspected military officer, Prince Krah, wanted over the killing of two people at Saki, near Tema Golf City, with a similar reward.

The police say investigations are continuing, and they are working to apprehend Osei Anto. The motive behind the double murder appears to be a dispute over the unpaid loan. The police are urging anyone with information about the incident or Osei Anto’s whereabouts to come forward and assist with the investigation.

The incident has raised concerns about the prevalence of violent crime in Ghana and the need for increased community vigilance. The police are working to bring the perpetrators to justice and reassure the public. The community is urged to remain calm and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
