The Ghana Police Service has made a breakthrough in the case of the alleged kidnapping and murder of 33-year-old Nana Yaw Kyere, a Circle phone dealer. According to the police, three suspects have been arrested in connection with the case. They are Philip Dzifa Kofi Tefe, Sarah Osei Adams, and Josiah Obodai. The police say preliminary investigations indicate that Kyere left his residence at Kokomlemle in Accra on September 19 in his Honda Civic vehicle but did not return.
The police say Kyere was reported missing on September 22, and investigations established that Sarah Osei Adams allegedly lured him to Tefe’s residence at Teshie Agbleza. The suspect, Philip Tefe, allegedly attacked the victim during a confrontation and hit him with a metallic object, causing him to sustain injuries. The police say both suspects later confessed to their involvement in the crime.
The police also revealed that Philip Tefe sold the victim’s iPhone 12 for GH¢100. The buyer, identified as Sunday Omeje, has been cautioned and detained for allegedly dishonestly receiving the phone. The police have retrieved the victim's iPhone 12 as part of their investigations.
According to the police, Kyere was subsequently moved to another room, where he was left unattended and later died. Investigations further established that his body was conveyed in a Kia Morning vehicle to a location near the motorway on September 20, where it was dumped in a bush and set ablaze. The partially burnt body was discovered at Community 18 on September 21.
The police say Kyere’s biological mother and an uncle later identified the body at the Police Hospital morgue on September 24. Further investigations led to the arrest of Obodai, who is being investigated in connection with the disposal of the body. His father’s Kia Morning vehicle, which the police believe was used to convey the body, has also been impounded.
The Ghana Police Service says it is continuing investigations into the case. The police have expressed gratitude to the public for their support and cooperation in the case. The suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned in court soon.
