The Ghana TVET Service has partnered with UNESCO, KPMG, and Microsoft to train at least 100,000 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) facilitators in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital skills. This partnership, signed under the AI EmpowerED initiative, aims to accelerate the integration of AI and digital innovation into Ghana's TVET system. The initiative will strengthen the capacity of TVET facilitators to deliver future-ready skills and improve teaching and learning.
The partnership was signed at the Ghana TVET Service headquarters in Accra. The Ghana TVET Service will lead national implementation, support institutional readiness, and integrate AI-enabled teaching and learning approaches into TVET delivery. UNESCO will provide policy leadership and technical oversight to ensure the programme aligns with international standards and best practices. KPMG will support programme design and systems strengthening, while Microsoft will provide digital infrastructure and AI-powered solutions.
The rapid transformation of workplaces and learning environments has created an urgent need to equip facilitators with new digital competencies. Employers are demanding skills that respond to automation and intelligent systems. The Ghana TVET Service noted that workshops, laboratories, and other training facilities are increasingly being influenced by evolving technologies.
The initiative will support curriculum enhancement, strengthen instructor capacity, and facilitate the deployment of digital tools in selected institutions. It will also create opportunities for youth employment, entrepreneurship, and innovation by ensuring that TVET graduates acquire relevant and future-oriented skills. The partnership is expected to have a nationwide impact.
Director-General of the Ghana TVET Service, Engr. Dr Eric Kofi Adzroe, said the partnership represents a shift towards a TVET system that is aligned with industry and driven by technology. He emphasized that technical and vocational education cannot remain static in a rapidly changing world.
The Deputy Director-General in charge of Management Services, Abdul Fatah Maigah Mahama, highlighted the importance of preparing facilitators to use AI responsibly. He noted that teachers and trainers must be equipped to assess AI-generated information, protect learner data, and guard against biases associated with AI.
The partnership is expected to be implemented in collaboration with government agencies, industry partners, and development organisations to ensure coordination, sustainability, and nationwide impact. The Ghana TVET Service, UNESCO, KPMG, and Microsoft will work together to achieve the goals of the AI EmpowerED initiative.
