The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has activated a $500,000 sponsorship package from GoldFields Ghana Limited to support the Black Challenge, Ghana's National Amputee Football Team, as they prepare for the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup. This funding is part of a larger $5 million commitment from GoldFields over two years to support Ghanaian football. The GFA has been working closely with stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of the sponsorship package.

GoldFields Ghana committed the $5 million sponsorship as an Official Partner of the GFA, unveiled on May 8, 2026, at the company's headquarters in Accra. The $500,000 earmarked for the Black Challenge will cover key expenses, including accommodation, feeding, flight tickets, and allowances, to strengthen the team's preparations for the global tournament. GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku led negotiations with GoldFields to secure the funding.

The GFA has engaged the Ghana Paralympic Committee and other stakeholders in amputee football to discuss funding arrangements and coordinate preparations for the competition. GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo has visited the team's training sessions to interact with players and monitor progress. The Association has provided over 30 footballs and training cones to support the team's training program.

During his recent visit, Harrison Addo assured players that they would receive official national team jerseys bearing their names, as well as camp wear and training kits carrying the Gold Fields Ghana sponsorship branding. The GFA has also paid the team's visa fees for travel to Turkey and Mexico as part of preparations. The Association is working to provide additional medical support, including two physiotherapists and a doctor.

The GFA is working closely with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Ghana Paralympic Committee to finalize the team's travel arrangements for the World Cup. The Black Challenge is intensifying preparations for the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup, and the GFA is committed to providing the necessary financial, logistical, and technical support.

Beyond the Black Challenge, the Gold Fields Ghana sponsorship package also supports the Black Stars, the Black Queens, and the Women's Premier League, reflecting the partnership's broader commitment to football development in Ghana. The GFA remains committed to working with partners and stakeholders to support the Black Challenge and other national teams.

The activation of the GoldFields sponsorship is a significant boost to the Black Challenge's preparations for the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup. The team's coach and players have expressed optimism about their chances in the tournament, with some players pledging to make the continent proud. The GFA's efforts to provide support to the team have been complemented by donations from other individuals and organizations.
