German State Minister for Foreign Affairs Florian Hahn has emphasized the strong cooperation between Germany and Egypt in the fields of economy and trade. Speaking at an event celebrating German Unity Day in Cairo, Hahn highlighted the long-standing relations between the two countries, noting that German companies have been active in Egypt for years, with significant economic relations between them. He expressed optimism about future cooperation, citing Egypt's vast potential in renewable energy.
Hahn mentioned that German companies have opened new production sites in Egypt this year, with more planning to do so in the coming months. He praised Egypt's potential in solar and wind energy, stating that both countries are working together to expand the use of renewable energy and improve energy efficiency. The two nations are also collaborating on green hydrogen, which Hahn sees as an area where economic growth, technological innovation, and energy transition can converge.
The German minister also highlighted the strong economic ties between Germany's Bavaria state and Egypt. He noted that bilateral trade between Egypt and Bavaria has exceeded €850 million since 2025, with Bavaria having maintained an economic presence in Egypt since 2020. Hahn emphasized the importance of cooperation in vocational training and knowledge transfer, stating that partnerships in this area should benefit both the German labor market and Egypt's economic development.
In addition to economic cooperation, Hahn touched on the significance of educational partnerships between Germany and Egypt. He mentioned the presence of German schools abroad and the planned "100 Egyptian-German schools" and "100 Egyptian-German vocational schools" projects. These initiatives aim to provide educational pathways and build bridges between the two societies.
German Ambassador to Cairo Jürgen Scholz echoed Hahn's sentiments, emphasizing the strength and diversity of German-Egyptian relations. He expressed pride in the close and friendly partnership, which has grown over time in politics, economy, culture, education, and science. Scholz highlighted the importance of mutual respect, shared interests, and appreciation in these relations.
The Egyptian-German relationship has been further strengthened through various cooperation agreements and initiatives. For instance, the Egyptian Ministry of Housing has been working with the UN-Habitat program to enhance cooperation in urban development. Similarly, the Ministry of Investment has been engaging with international partners to promote investment and economic growth.
As the two countries continue to build on their strong foundation of cooperation, they are expected to explore new areas of collaboration.
