The Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) and ManyTek International LLC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen digital skills development, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), applied research, and industry collaboration. This partnership aims to bridge the gap between academic training and industry by providing students with practical skills, mentorship, internships, career development opportunities, and exposure to emerging technologies. The MoU was signed in Accra on October 2, 2026.
The Acting Vice Chancellor of GCTU, Prof. Ebenezer Malcalm, emphasized that the partnership is part of the university's efforts to enhance teaching and learning, promote research and innovation, and create opportunities for students, faculty, and staff. He noted that the collaboration would expand the university's industry partnerships and support its ambition of becoming a leading technology-driven university and innovation hub in Africa.
Prof. Malcalm stated that the partnership would complement existing collaborations in networking and professional certification by extending opportunities in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, workforce readiness, practical skills development, applied research, and career development. For students, he said, the collaboration would provide industry-relevant training, mentorship, practical experience, and pathways to improve their employability in competitive global markets.
The Chief Executive Officer of ManyTek International LLC, Emmanuel Damptey, stressed that the success of the partnership should be measured by the opportunities and capabilities it creates, rather than just the signing of the agreement. He highlighted that rapid advances in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity are changing the nature of work and increasing the demand for professionals capable of applying their knowledge to solve real-world problems.
Mr. Damptey emphasized that Ghana has great young talent, strong universities, entrepreneurs, researchers, engineers, and professionals capable of competing globally. He stated that the priority is to strengthen the infrastructure around that talent by building stronger links between education and industry, knowledge and practical experience, research and innovation, and demonstrated capability and economic opportunity.
Mr. Damptey outlined that ManyTek would contribute practical cybersecurity experience, workforce development, technology platforms, industry perspectives, and international exposure, while GCTU would provide academic expertise, research capability, and institutional strength. He stressed that the partnership would be guided by measurable outcomes, including capabilities developed, beneficiaries reached, research generated, opportunities created, and lessons learned.
The partnership between GCTU and ManyTek International LLC aims to address the evolving needs of the technology sector and the job market. Key aspects of the collaboration include enhancing digital skills, promoting innovation, and fostering industry-academia cooperation. The MoU is expected to have a positive impact on Ghana's education and technology sectors, ultimately contributing to the country's economic growth and development.
