Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has denied allegations of betraying President Tinubu's trust. Speaking at the 2026 Gbajabiamila Mega Empowerment Programme in Lagos, Gbajabiamila addressed recent controversies and accusations surrounding his involvement with the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). He insisted that investigations into the allegations were conducted with due process, despite pressure to condemn him before the investigations were concluded.
The allegations against Gbajabiamila stemmed from his reported involvement with the PFIPC, which was found to be a fictitious organisation. However, probes conducted by the House of Representatives and other agencies cleared Gbajabiamila of any wrongdoing. Gbajabiamila expressed gratitude to those who supported him during the ordeal, saying their prayers and words of encouragement helped him navigate the challenging period.
Gbajabiamila emphasised that he remained committed to his responsibilities in the Presidency despite the attacks against him. He warned those behind the attacks that no amount of money, blackmail, or lies would detract him from his work. Gbajabiamila also cautioned individuals using his name to defame others, stating that the law would eventually catch up with them.
The Chief of Staff spoke on his relationship with President Tinubu, describing his loyalty as unwavering despite political decisions with which he may not always agree. Gbajabiamila said he had worked closely with Tinubu for many years and that the President was confident in his integrity. He reaffirmed his commitment to Tinubu's Renewed Hope agenda.
The Gbajabiamila Mega Empowerment Programme, held at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, targeted around 5,000 beneficiaries from communities in Surulere. The programme included various forms of support, such as cash, vehicles, electric tricycles, buses, security patrol vehicles, and an ambulance. Deputy Governor of Lagos State and APC governorship candidate, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, commended Gbajabiamila for his consistency in identifying with his people.
Hamzat used the occasion to canvass support for President Tinubu's re-election, citing his capacity and strength as a leader. He described other candidates as politically unstable and incapable of managing a complex nation like Nigeria. Hamzat praised Tinubu for building the APC into the largest political party in Africa.
The event showcased Gbajabiamila's efforts to empower his constituents and demonstrate his commitment to their well-being. The Chief of Staff's denial of wrongdoing and reaffirmation of loyalty to President Tinubu underscore the ongoing efforts to clear his name and maintain a strong working relationship with the President.
